Royal National lifeboat Institution, Poole, Dorset. – Executive Career Coaching for Competitive Promotions

Career Coaching for Competitive Promotions to Executive Positions (8 employees)

The RNLI sought to support senior leaders competing for promotions to executive positions within the organisation. These roles were subject to an external headhunting process conducted by a third-party partner, adding an extra layer of competition for internal candidates.

The Challenge

Eight senior leaders were identified as high-potential candidates for these coveted positions. To succeed, they needed to distinguish themselves as credible, accomplished professionals capable of competing not only with their peers but also with external candidates recruited through the headhunting process.

Our Approach

Career Matters was engaged to deliver tailored 1:1 career coaching to help these senior leaders refine their personal brands and navigate the competitive application process. The support included:

  • Personal Brand Development: Helping leaders articulate their unique value propositions, showcasing their achievements, leadership qualities, and alignment with the RNLI’s strategic goals.
  • Application Materials: Crafting impactful CVs, application letters, and LinkedIn profiles tailored to highlight their suitability for executive roles.
  • Interview Preparation: Providing advice and practical exercises to enhance confidence and refine responses for executive-level interviews.
  • Strategic Communication: Coaching leaders on how to effectively communicate their vision, leadership style, and key accomplishments to align with RNLI’s expectations for executive leadership.

The Outcome

All eight senior leaders reported significant improvements in their confidence and readiness to compete for executive positions. Several successfully secured promotions, while others strengthened their profiles for future opportunities. Feedback from participants highlighted the value of the bespoke coaching and its impact on their professional development.
